Saddleback College’s student club, ACLAMO, which stands for “Ayudando Chicano Latino A Mover Obstaculos” will be hosting its inaugural Mexican/Chicano/Latino Film Exhibition from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3rd.

In partnership with the university’s Department of Anthropology, ACLAMO will bring six films to campus that highlight Latino and Chicano heritage.

“Our goal is to expose all students and members of Orange County community to educational films from Mexico that are not shown in the U.S.” said Peter J. Espinosa, emeritus professor at Saddleback College, in a written statement.

Five of the movies were filmed in Mexico City and one, “Sin Padre,” was produced in Los Angeles; all screenings will have English subtitles.

Directors and producers from all the films will be present at the screenings to discuss their movies.

ACLAMO was formed as a place for Saddleback’s Chicano and Latino students’ voices to be heard, said the club’s advisor, Sara Nieves-Lucas. Now 18 months later, the club is 40 members strong.

“It was a club that was greatly needed…it gave our faculty awareness that we exist,” said Nieves-Lucas. “The Chicano and Latino community is a big community. ACLAMO forms a sense of unity and a sense of family in higher education.”

Admission and parking for the festival are free, except on Thursday and Saturday, when parking is $2.
